着物 + 鉢巻

September 5, 2008

The national costume of Japan! Kimono litererally means ‘thing to wear’ (着物). Nowadays women usually wear it for special occassions like weddings or tea ceremonies…or just dress up parties! 🙂
Don’t forget your hachimaki! It is symbol of perservrance and effort by the wearer! The hachimaki usually have some sort of motif (e.g. the Rising Sun). Translates as ‘helmet scarf (‘鉢巻’), samurai used it to keep their helmet on and absorb perspiration.

That was an interesting history lesson, wasn’t it? 🙂
